The IPSentry IT Environmental Monitoring Add-In provides you with the ability to utilize IPSentry in conjunction with Sensatronics IT Environmental Monitoring modules for monitoring of ambient temperatures, relative humidity, wetness as reported by the various temperature, humidity and wetness sensors.

You define the modules and probes to monitoring as well as the acceptable value range thresholds.

From the Entry Editor, set the Type of entry to Add-In, click Select Add-In and select the IT Environmental Monitor.
Click on the Configure Add-In button.

Log Results to File
You may select a file to which the results of each monitoring cycle will be stored. The file is a CSV type comma delimited file from which you can cull historic information.

The file name specified can be a static file name to which all entries will be logged cumulatively. You may also specify date/time keys in the file name to have logs named and grouped by date.

For example: TT%YY%%MM%%DD%.LOG would log data to a file named using the current date creating a file each day. Such that on August 15, 2002, the file name would be TT020815.LOG.

If you wanted to group files by month you could simply use TT%YYYY%%MM%.LOG. In this case, all logged entries for the current month would be logged to the same file (e.g. TT200208.LOG).

The structure of the log contains the following fields. Each value is separated by a comma.

Field Name Field Description
DATE
Contains the date on which the monitoring occurred. The format is the system date format.

TIME
Contains the time on which the monitoring occurred. The format is in 24 hour HH:MM:SS.

TYPE
Contains the type of probe.
RS232 = Device connected to local COM port
TCPIP = Device is accessed via network (not yet available)

MODEL
The model of the IT Temperature Monitor device being monitored.

COM_PORT
The communication port to which the device is attached.

NET_ADDRESS
The internet address if the device for TCP/IP type devices.

NET_PORT
The TCP/IP Port number used to connect to the TCP/IP type devices. (net yet available)

PROBE_NUMBER
The probe number on the device for which this entry was logged.

SCALE
The temperature scale used to record and evaluate values.
F = Fahrenheit
C = Celsius

TEMP
The actual temperature value returned from the probe.

MIN_TEMP
The minimum temperature allowed as defined by the probe configuration.

MAX_TEMP
The maximum temperature allowed as defined by the probe configuration.

PROBE_NAME
The descriptive name given to this probe. When monitoring "ALL" probes on a specified module, this name will be the same for all probes evaluated on the IT Temperature Monitor module.

Ignore Connection Failures
By default, the add-in will return a failure if it can not communication with the specified device to obtain values from the various probes. When you check this option, any failure to communication with the device will be ignored and assume that the temperatures are within the defined thresholds for the specified probe. Use this option with caution as you would not be alerted if the module or probe failed or was disconnected.

Ignore Unused/Open
Ignore Unused Responses
By default, if the module returns "-99.9", this will specify that the probe is not connected and is unused thus triggering a failure. By checking this option, the value is ignored and an assumption is made that the temperature on that probe is within the defined thresholds. Use this option with caution as you would not be alerted if a probe were broken or malfunctioning in such a way as the module did not recognize that the probe were attached.

Ignore Shorted
By default, if the module returns "255", this will specify that the probe is shorted and would generate a failure. By checking this option, the value is ignored and an assumption is made that the temperature on that probe is within the defined thresholds. Use this option with caution as you would not be alerted if a probe were broken or malfunctioning in such a way as to short the contacts at the module.

Default Temp Scale
Select the temperature scale you wish to use for evaluating and logging the temperatures obtained from the IT Temperature Monitor module.

Return Full Results
During an alert, you can use the %IPS_RECV_Fxxxx% keyword to return the results from the IT Temperature Monitor add-in in text messages (Email, Alpha Pager, Etc...). By default, the add-in only returns information regarding the modules and probes that caused a failure (outside of the defined threshold). By checking this option, the results of all modules and probe tests will be returned in the message. If you are monitoring many probes, the results can be unwieldy. We recommend leaving this option unchecked thus providing only meaningful information in the return result (the failed probes).

Probes to Monitor
This list contains information about each module and probe you want to monitor with this configuration. It is recommended that you configure separate monitoring entries for each module. Remember, due to the timing requirements for the RS232 connection, each module can take several seconds before obtaining a result. Thus, if you have a list of 20 different modules, the task could run for almost a minute before returning a result.

Add (button)
Hit this button to add a new Module/Probe to the list of entries. You will be presented with the Sensor Configuration window where you can define various overrides, module location, and temperature thresholds.

Modify (button)
Hit this button to edit the highlighted Module/Probe in the list of entries. You will be presented with the Sensor Configuration window where you can modify various overrides, module location, and temperature thresholds.

Remove (button)
Hit this button to delete the highlighted Module/Probe from the list of entries.

Model
Select the IT Temperature Monitor module model type you will be monitoring. This will update the Probe # list to contain a list of probe numbers available for that model.

Local (rs232)
Select the RS232 communications port to which the IT Temperature Monitor module is attached if using a Model F connected to the local machine.

IP Address / Port
Enter the IP Address and port number (default is 80) at which the Model E or Model F Agents are located.

Timeout
The default timeout is 10 seconds to obtain the result. Adjust the total timeout value for connection and response here. Validate (button)
Hit this button to have the add-in attempt to connect to the module and obtain temperature readings. You will receive a SUCCESS or FAIL message as to whether or not the add-in could read temperature data from the device. A successful response will display a list containing the data returned from each probe attached to the module.

IT Environmental Monitoring Add-In Configuration

Probe #
Select the probe # to monitor. You may select ALL to monitor all probes connected to the module - however, this should only be used when all probes are connected or in conjunction with "Ignore Unused Responses".

Name
Specify a descriptive name for the probe(s) being monitoring. This name will be included in the result message during a failure as well as in the log file (if specified).

If you have selected "ALL", the name will be the same for each log entry.

Low Alarm
Enter the lowest value that is acceptable for the selected probe. If the value is below this number, a failure will occur and any alerts configured will be triggered.

High Alarm
Enter the highest value that is acceptable for the selected probe. If the value is above this number, a failure will occur and any alerts configured will be triggered.

Test
When you hit the Test button, the add-in will evaluate the results as it would during a normal cycle and display the information that was gathered along with the result as Normal or Critical.
