If a monitored entry takes from 100 to 1000 ms to perform a check, that much time will be cut off if it is not pollled during that cycle, so the performance difference will be based on the amount of time it would normally take to check an entry. Of course, that also depends on what is being monitored. A ping test on the local network - no, hardly any benefit to adjusting that frequency because they are the fastest monitor.
