SMTP/POP3 Mail Loop Monitor - Help Index
The IPSentry SMTP/POP3 Mail Loop Monitoring Add-In provides you with the ability to
monitor an email path from SMTP Relay to the final POP3 mailbox.
In the event that the SMTP Relay host is unable to deliver messages to the
specified POP3 mailbox in the amount of time specified, alerts will be
triggered.
SMTP/POP3 Mail Loop Monitor now supports MAPI (MS Mail / Outlook on Exchange)
The Process
The Mail Loop monitor performs the following steps to ensure proper flow of
email messages from SMTP to POP3 mailbox.
Sends an message to the destination address through the specified SMTP relay.
Periodically checks for the sent message in the POP3 mailbox specified.
If the message is found, the cycle starts over.
If the message is not found in the time specified, alerts will be triggered and the cycle starts over.
Notes: The email message sent contains special headers and message content that must be contained in the message found on the POP server. In rare instances, some mail servers have been found to strip the special "X" header and/or modify the message content in such a way that it becomes impossible for the add-in to identify the unique message.
Each test message contains the following Special SMTP Header and Message Content:
Special Header: X-IPSentryPopLoop-Ident: {unique identifier}
Message Content: Ident: {unique identifier) [within first 3 lines of message].
