SNMP Monitoring Add-In - Help Index

The IPSentry SNMP Monitoring Add-In provides you with the ability to query SNMP values on SNMP compliant devices and generate alerts when those values are either inaccessible or outside of your thresholds.

The SNMP add-in allows you to setup multiple filters to be checked during a cycle - if any one of the values queried match the specified filters, the add-in will return an "ALERT STATE" to IPSentry thus causing any scheduled alerts to be triggered.

The Process
The SNMP monitor performs the following steps .

  1. Sends an SNMP GET to the specified agent.

  2. Waits for a response for the timeout specified.

  3. Compares the returned value(s) against your defined filters.

  4. If no response is received or the values match your filters, scheduled alerts will be triggered.

As with all add-in components, the verbose result can be included in textual alerts using the %IPS_RECV_Fxxx% keyword variable. (See the IPSentry keywords section for more information on this variable)

Notes:  This add-in requires advanced networking knowledge in that you must be somewhat familiar with SNMP. Object Identifiers, Object Types, etc..
