How-To: Configure an email alert.
When a system fails, you may wish to send alerts via Email.
IPSentry supports only SMTP email delivery (non authenticated)
In this example, we will configure the alert to send an email to ipsentry@ipsentry.com from alerts@ipsentry.com. The alert will be sent through our internal SMTP server at 10.1.1.1 and contain the current machine name and state in the subject as well as the message body. If an alert has been sent because the system was down, we want to send another when the problem has been corrected.
Select Options from the Edit Menu.
Select the Server/Machine Monitoring tab.
Highlight the machine for which the email alert should be configured.
Hit the Properties button.
Select the Email alert tab.
Set the Enabled property to Yes
Set the Alert Success option to checked.
Enter the IP Address of the SMTP Server (10.1.1.1)
Enter the Port on which the server is listening for email (25 is the
standard SMTP port)
Enter the From email address
(alerts@ipsentry.com)
Enter the recipients email address in the To field
(ipsentry@ipsentry.com)
Enter the Subject of the message.
(IPSentry Keywords can be used here)
Example: %IPS_NAME% is %IPS_M_STAT%
Enter the text of the message.
(IPSentry Keywords can be used here)
Example: %IPS_NAME% (%IPS_DESCRIPTION%) at %IPS_ADDRESS%:%IPS_PORT% is %IPS_M_STAT%
