IPSentry Menu Options
The IPSentry console contains various menu options for navigation of the application and specific functionality.
Click on the menu option below for detailed information:
Menu Option Details
File->Pause
Checking [Hotkey: CTRL-N]
Suspends IPSentry monitoring for a specified amount of time.
After selecting this option, you will be prompted for the duration of which you
wish to suspend all monitoring activity in hours:minutes. The time-out
functionality helps to avoid the problem of suspending monitoring and neglecting
to resume leaving your monitored devices unchecked for an infinite amount of
time.
File->Check Now
[Hotkey: CTRL-N]
Immediately initiates a monitoring cycle and overrides the current cycle
interval.
File->Skip
Remainder of Cycle [Hotkey: CTRL-C]
Interrupts the currently executing monitor cycle and skips all entries
remaining. This can come in handy when you have 500 devices to monitor but
need to stop monitoring for some reason.
File->View
Statistics
Generates an HTML statistics report to display device state and up-time ratio
and launches your default browser to display the results.
File->Exit
Terminates the IPSentry application.
File->Restart
IPSentry
Terminates and restarts IPSentry. Some configurations will require a
restart of IPSentry in order for the settings to take place. Although you
will be given the option to restart IPSentry when required, you may instead wish
to restart IPSentry manually.
Edit->Clear->Escalation
Levels
Sets all pager escalation counters to 0. This will cause IPSentry to reset
the currently scheduled pager to the first pager in the list.
Edit->Clear->Failure
Counts
Sets all internal failure counters to 0. Each alert contains a FEM (First
After, Every, Max) alert schedule which is followed based upon the current
number of sequential failures. Selecting this option will cause any alerts
generated in the next cycle to react as though it were the first failure of the
device.
Edit->Clear->Statistics
Sets all failure and attempt counters to 0. Once confirming this option is
complete, the "View Statistics" option will show 0 attempts with 0
failures. You will be prompted with a list of machines from which you can
select all or some allowing you to clear specific statistics.
Edit->Clear->Poll
Counters
Sets the current poll count (cycle count) on all machines to 0. This will
call all subsequent monitored items to react as though this were the first cycle
performed. If you have a poll count set to a value greater than one, polling of
that device on the next cycle will be skipped.
Edit->Options
Launches the configuration window providing access to all IPSentry configuration
options included system settings, application options, add, edit, remove
machines, alert settings, and etc.
View->Color
Display
You can check or uncheck this option to have IPSentry display the active console
in either color or gray scale. If you are using a mono-vga, unchecking
this option will provide you with a more readable display of current
activity. Note: This has no effect on the visual display of an ANSI
compatible telnet session to the remote access port.
View->Short
Display
Use this option to toggle the active display between single-line short
activity display and multi-line long display. We recommend the long
display for preliminary use and configuration validation. Once the
configuration appears to be accurate to your needs, moving to the short display
will provide you with more information regarding activity and device state
within the viewable window.
Add-Ins->Add-In
Manager
Displays the IPSentry add-in manager to view, add, remove, and change various
aspects of IPSentry add-in components. This option is primarily used to
view which add-ins are available as well as entering any add-in specific
registration codes (if required). Also for use with in-house add-in
development to ensure proper installation of customized add-ins.
IPSentry also allows you to enter 'menu' style add-ins that act as quick pointers to external applications you may wish to launch from the IPSentry console.
Add-Ins->[installed
'menu' style addins]
If you have setup any external applications or installed any menu-specific
applications, the titles and menu prompt information will be displayed on the
Add-Ins menu option.
Help->Help
Topics
Launches the IPSentry HTML Help system for viewing and searching of the help
documents.
Help->License
Agreement
Displays the IPSentry license agreement that was also displayed during the
installation process.
Help->Show Tips
Displays the startup TIPS dialogue. This will allow you turn on or turn
off startup TIPS depending on your preference.
Help->About
IPSentry
Displays critical information about the currently running version of IPSentry.
Points of interest are the full version number (Major / Minor / Build) as well as
your license code.
Help->Register
Provides you with the IPSentry registration code input dialogue. Use this
option to either enter a newly purchased license code, or modify the current
code if required. The REG NAME and REG CODE are keyed to one another and
must be entered exactly as received. (The name & keys are not case sensitive.)
Help->Tell
an Associate
Links directly to IPSentry's web-site allowing you to send a pre-formatted email
message to an associate regarding IPSentry.
In order to avoid conflicts due to options and system configuration changes, polling is suspend during various editing options. For example, accessing Edit/Options signifies that changes will be made to monitored entries, alerts, dependencies, and other system settings, thus - until the task is complete, polling is suspended.
