IPSentry - Options - Server/Machine Monitoring Settings
The Server/Machine Monitoring tab provides access
to add, edit, and remove network devices and items to be monitored as well as
configure the global default alert settings that can be utilized so that there
is no need to configure alert settings for each and every device.
The following options appear on this tab:
Servers/Services
(list)
This list contains basic information regarding every device being monitored by
IPSentry.
By clicking on the column headings, you can sort the list for viewing on any
field.
In order to edit or remove a device from IPSentry, simply highlight the device
in this list and click on the Properties button or the Remove button.
You may edit or delete multiple items simultaneously by highlighting several
items and selecting the appropriate action.
You may suspend or un-suspend monitoring of specific devices directly from this list by right-clicking on the desired entry and selecting the action from the popup menu (Suspend/Un-suspend)
Note: While you can select multiple items to edit, you must take great care in that all of the items are of similar type so as not to destroy or disrupt configuration settings that may not apply. e.g. Do not select an NT Service monitor and a Drive Space monitoring item to edit at the same time.
Configure
Defaults
The default configuration provides you with a simple way to maintain a
consistent configuration across all devices.
For example, let's say that 90% of the devices being monitored should perform
the exact same alerts. You can configure the alerts using the Configure
Defaults options and simply select "Default" on the various alert tabs
for items that should use the default configuration. The biggest advantage
to using this method is that by simply modifying the defaults, the settings will
be changed for all alerts marked to use the default settings thus saving you the
time of updating alert configurations for each and every item.
Use of this option is also helpful when you have a large number of items to
monitor that are all the same and only minor differences exist between
configuration. For example, if you need to configure 40 web servers whose
configuration is identical with the exception of the IP Address, name, and
description - you can configure the default machine as needed and each time you
select "Add", the settings will be pre-set to the defaults requiring
minimal modification of only those fields that differentiate the items.
Add (button)
Click this button to add a new network device to be monitored. You
will then be presented with the standard IPSentry Machine Options Editor.
Remove (button)
After highlighting the desire entry to remove, click this button to remove
the selected item from IPSentry.
Properties (button)
After highlighting the desire entry to edit, click this button to load and edit
the settings for the selected item.
