How-To: Configure an Audible alert for use with sound device.
IPSentry provides Audible alert functionality to notify persons within hearing distance to be made aware that IPSentry has detected a fault on some device. If your system is equipped with a sound card and speakers, IPSentry can make use of WAV files for both UP and DOWN notification. If however your system has only a PC Speaker, IPSentry can make use of a beeping sequence via the PC Speaker when a system is in a state of failure.
To enable this functionality, perform the following steps:
Select Options from the Edit menu.
Select the Server/Machine Monitoring Tab
Highlight the machine to use the audible alert and hit
the Properties button.
Select on the Audible tab.
Set the Enabled option to Yes.
If your system has sound capability.
Click on the Alert Success option to enable UP
alerts.
Hit the Browse button next to the Down WAV
field and select an appropriate wave file.
(A file named down.wav is provided in the distribution under the
application path)
Hit the Browse button next to the Up WAV
field and select an appropriate wave file.
(A file named up.wav is provided in the distribution under the
application path)
Click the speaker button next to either of the
above fields to test the sound.
Set the Cycle WAV field to the number of times
the WAV file should be played (looped).
Set the Alert Schedule according to your preferences.
If your system does NOT have sound capability.
Click on the Loop Beeps option to enable use of
the speaker.
(Sound system specific fields will be disabled)
Set the Cycle WAV field to the number of
iterations of speaker beeping you prefer.
Note that the Alert Success sounds identical to
down and is not widely used with audible alerts on a PC Speaker only
configuration.
Set the Alert Schedule according to your preferences.
