How-To: Set a device to be monitored at specific times of day.

IPSentry provides a means to schedule times of day at which monitoring specific devices should and should not take place.  This feature is normally used in conjunction with a rigid maintenance plan where you know the exact days and times when a device will be unavailable and where monitoring the device would result in unnecessary alerts. 

For example, lets say we have an application server that is taken off-line every night between 6pm and 8pm for various maintenance functions.  It would serve no useful purpose to have IPSentry monitor this station at that time and send alerts since we are already aware that the system will be unavailable at this time of day.

To accomplish the task of ignoring this entry during those times, you will need to make use of the down-time schedule option and configure the schedule so that IPSentry ignores the system from 6pm to 8pm. 

1. Select Options from the Edit Menu.
    

2. Select the Server/Machine Monitoring Tab
    

3. Highlight the machine you wish to modify and hit the Properties button.
    

4. Hit the Schedule button on the the Server Settings tab.
    

5. Click the button which represents the day of week on which to set the schedule.
    

6. In the Sched field, enter the time frames you wish to have monitoring active during the day.
   (Example: 00:00-18:00,20:00-23:59 )
   Notice the format is FROM-TO,FROM-TO,FROM-TO
   The range is 15 minute intervals and may be modified automatically by IPSentry to display the correct time frames.
    

7. You MUST press ENTER while still in this field for the schedule to be applied.
    

8. Perform step 5 thru 7 for each day that the schedule will apply.
    

9. Click OK to save the schedule.

You will notice the graphic schedule will show RED for the time of day in which monitoring will not take place.  All active times will be in green.

To reset the schedule for a day to full 24 hour availability, you can double-click on the graphic representation for the day.
