How-To: Trigger alerts when a problem device has been corrected.

After a failure alert has been sent or triggered, you may find it helpful to send "Success" alerts once the problem has been corrected.  This feature can be used to notify staff that the problem is resolved and immediate attention may not be required or this feature may be used with logging and historical record keeping via email alerts or customized add-in components.

In either case, each alert option provides an "Alert Success" flag that tells IPSentry to trigger the alert when a monitored machine returns to "Success" state.  This success alert is only triggered if a failure alert was previously triggered.

The exception to the above rule is in pager configuration.  While there is not an explicit "Alert Success" option available, the act of simply entering a digit in the Up Code field on the Pager alert tab will trigger the same results.  The difference being that the value entered in this field will be sent to numeric pagers rather than the standard IP Address:Port value that is send when a failure is detected.   Alpha numeric pagers however use this code only as a trigger to send UP alerts and the message text should contain the %IPS_M_STAT% keyword.

In this example, we will set an Email alert to be sent when a previously reported problem has been corrected.

  1. Select Options from the Edit Menu.

  2. Select the Server/Machine Monitoring tab.

  3. Highlight the machine for which the email alert should be configured.

  4. Hit the Properties button.

  5. Select the Email alert tab.

  6. Set the Enabled property to Yes

  7. Set the Alert Success option to checked. <-- This is the flag.

  8. Enter the IP Address of the SMTP Server

  9. Enter the Port on which the server is listening for email (25 is the standard SMTP port)

  10. Enter the From email address (name@domain.com format)

  11. Enter the recipients email address in the To field (name@domain.com format)

  12. Enter the subject of the message.
(IPSentry Keywords can be used here)

  13. Enter the text of the message.

  14. (IPSentry Keywords can be used here)

  15. Set the Alert Schedule as desired.
